Description
The tour starts at 9:00 AM with hotel pick-up in Munich. After a 2-hour drive to Hohenschwangau, the hike begins with a walk along Lake Alpsee’s tranquil shores, surrounded by alpine scenery.
Within 30 minutes, you will reach a quiet vantage point offering views of Neuschwanstein Castle, away from the crowds. During summer months (June to August), swimming in Lake Alpsee is possible.
The trail proceeds to a viewpoint of Hohenschwangau Castle, once home to King Ludwig II’s family, then climbs through forested hills with panoramic views over the valley, the lake, and the castles.
After approximately two hours of hiking, you arrive at Neuschwanstein Castle with time to explore the grounds, visit Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), and enjoy the surroundings. At 2:55 PM, you join the official English guided tour of the castle (subject to availability) or use an audio guide in your language. Inside, you will learn about King Ludwig II and the castle’s fairy-tale architecture.
The day ends with a 30-minute walk down to the village and parking lot before returning to Munich, arriving around 7 PM.
